Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) has set up a 12-member committee to screen the nominee for deputy governor, Murtala Sule-Garo.

The development follows a letter from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf requesting the House of Assembly to screen and confirm Sule-Garo.

The correspondence was read during the plenary by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore.

According to the Speaker, the governor is seeking approval for the appointment pursuant to Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution.

The request comes after the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam on March 27, 2026.

In his letter, Gov. Yusuf said Garo’s nomination followed extensive consultations with socio-political, religious, and cultural stakeholders in the state.

He described Garo as a seasoned public administrator with broad experience at the grassroots and sub-national levels.

Garo previously served as Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs to the Governor, Chairman of Kabo Local Government, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The governor expressed confidence that Garo’s experience, loyalty, and knowledge of Kano’s political and administrative landscape would enhance governance and support the delivery of democratic dividends.

He urged the House to expedite the approval process.

Following deliberations, the House constituted a 12-member committee to screen the nominee.

The panel is chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, Majority Leader, Chief Whip, Deputy Majority Leader, Majority Whip, and lawmakers representing Fagge, Sumaila, Warawa, Dawakin Kudu, and Tudun Wada constituencies as members.

The committee is expected to conclude the screening and present its report to the House of Assembly on Monday.
