• Truck crushes six to death, injures three in Ogun

Fifteen Abia State traders, among others, have died in an auto crash involving the commercial Coaster bus they were in and an articulated truck on the Umuahia-Enugu bound lane of the Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The incident also left some of the passengers with injuries.

Some of the survivors blamed the driver of the bus for speeding and driving against traffic.

Among the deceased traders was a popular Master of Ceremony (MC), Councillor, who was said to have anchored the traditional wedding that they attended at Nkanu in Enugu State.

Governor Alex Otti said he received the news of the crash with sadness. He regretted that the accident happened where the state could not render any emergency assistance.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma read: “After gathering some reliable pieces of information concerning the accident, Governor Otti directed the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection to get across to the families of the deceased and survivors to offer the necessary support that might be needed by affected families

“Governor Otti calls on drivers to always observe road safety rules and desist from speeding or driving against traffic to reduce the carnage on our roads.

“Governor Otti, on behalf of the government and people of Abia State, commiserates with the families and loved ones of the deceased and prays God to grant their souls eternal repose.”

In Ogun State, six persons lost their lives and three others critically injured yesterday morning following a traffic accident involving a truck and a tricycle.

The accident occurred at the Ilo-Awela corridor of the Toll Gate area on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway when a truck struggling with brake failure rammed into the tricycle, other vehicles and pedestrians on the road.

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the accident and casualties.

It was learnt that the remains of the dead comprising five males and a female, were taken to the morgue of the Ifo General Hospital, while the survivors were rushed to the State General Hospital Ota for treatment.
