The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ondo State has scheduled its state congress for Monday, May 4, 2026, in line with directives from the party’s national leadership, as it intensifies preparations ahead of the general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Akure, the State Publicity Secretary, Owolola Adebola, said the congress will hold at Royal Birds Hotel and Towers, Alagbaka, Akure, beginning at 12:00 noon.
Adebola disclosed that 150 delegates from the 18 local government areas of the state are expected to participate in the exercise, describing it as a critical part of the party’s internal democratic process.
He said the party leadership had put in place adequate arrangements to ensure a transparent and orderly congress.
According to him, the NDC remains committed to credible internal processes, adding that members and stakeholders have played a key role in ensuring peaceful ward and local government congresses across the state.
The party urged delegates and members to turn out in large numbers and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise.
The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly following speculation linking prominent political figures, including former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, with the party.
The NDC, a recently registered political platform, is positioning itself as a new opposition force ahead of the next general elections.
The party is being led by former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator Seriake Dickson as National Leader, alongside interim officials headed by Protem National Chairman Cleopas Moses Zuwogeh.
