…party affirms Adeleke for second term

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Hon. Sunday Bisi, on Thursday rejected moves by a faction within the party to remove him from office, describing the action as unlawful.

Bisi’s reaction followed a meeting attended by former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, during which a group announced his removal and the constitution of a caretaker executive to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.

Addressing the development, Bisi maintained that he remains the duly elected chairman of the party and that no forum has the authority to dissolve the existing leadership structure.

He said the PDP in Osun has no candidate for the forthcoming August election and has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.

According to him, the forum that announced his removal lacks the legal mandate to tamper with the party’s elected structures.

“I remain the chairman,” Bisi stated, adding that the party’s elected officials, except the governor and deputy governor, are still members of the PDP.

He said the majority of party structures across the state, including local and ward levels, support the current leadership and the decision to back Governor Adeleke.

Bisi also criticised Oyinlola’s involvement in the meeting, describing it as a betrayal and linking it to past internal disagreements within the party ahead of the 2022 governorship election.

He added that the decision by Governor Adeleke to seek re-election on another platform was taken in the interest of preserving his candidacy amid internal divisions.

The Osun PDP chairman insisted that the party’s mainstream members remain united behind the governor and the existing state leadership.
