Senator Tokunbo Abiru and the immediate past Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, endorsed Dr. Quadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Lagos Deputy Governor, for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidacy in the 2027 Lagos governorship election on Saturday.

Both chieftains of the ruling party expressed their readiness to support his bid when Hamzat visited them in their Lagos homes yesterday.

The visits were part of the consultation process in his push to become the party's candidate.

At the Lagos East Senator's house, Hamzat said he was visiting to seek Abiru's support.

Dr. Hamzat, while emphasising the importance of the visits, said it meant to engage stakeholders and seek their support

"Consultations are part of a democratic process to strengthen the party. And it's our tradition to ensure that we carry every member along in the decision-making.

"You have our full support ", assured the lawmaker.

To Edun, the consultations show grassroots democracy in action and underscore the importance of such engagement in a democratic system.

Edun didn't mince words in support of Hamzat

"You have our endorsement. You have the capacity, experience, and competence to lead", said the former minister while urging the aspirant to focus on poverty reduction and sustained economic growth.

Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who was among Hamzat's entourage, commended Edun for his longstanding contributions to the party.

Hon Julius Solomon, a political leader at the meeting, described Hamzat as the most qualified candidate, citing his governance experience and loyalty to the party.
