A governorship aspirant in Adamawa State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Suleiman Yerima Balla, has urged residents supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to accept that the 2023 election represented a peak of his political support in the state.
Balla made the remarks on Monday while addressing journalists on the sidelines of his formal declaration of interest in the Adamawa governorship race, where he also expressed confidence that the state would deliver a strong vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar is our father and we proved our love for him in 2023 and previous election seasons by voting massively for him, but the situation has changed,” Balla said.
He argued that Atiku had benefited significantly from Adamawa’s support over the years, adding that future electoral dynamics would differ. “Atiku has had Adamawa’s backing severally enough and will not be so lucky this time,” he added.

Balla further stated that recent political developments, including the entry of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri into the APC, had strengthened the ruling party’s structure in the state.
“With the coming into APC of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the APC is now one large family and we will all be working for our President, Bola Tinubu,” he said.
At the event in Yola, Balla also unveiled a nine-point agenda focusing on security and peaceful coexistence, agricultural development, education, healthcare delivery, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure and urban renewal, industrialisation and job creation, civil service reforms and digital governance, as well as culture and tourism.
He pledged to transform agriculture into a major wealth-creating sector, stressing that his administration would position farmers to meet both state and national food demands.
“Across the state, agriculture will create wealth for farmers and provide food for all,” he said.
On education, Balla promised broad reforms aimed at expanding access and improving learning outcomes. “We will expand access to learning, renovate schools, train teachers, and ensure that every child has a place in the classroom,” he added.
