Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has cautioned aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections against desperation and 'do-or-die' politics, urging unity, discipline and loyalty within the party.
Aiyedatiwa gave the warning on Friday at the APC Central Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held at the Akure Township Hall, where he said candidates would emerge through merit, loyalty and winnability.
The governor also declared a target of one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ondo State in the 2027 presidential election, describing it as a key priority for the party.

He said the APC had already commenced political consultations ahead of the elections, adding that the process would involve collection of nomination forms, screening, appeals where necessary, and either direct primaries or consensus arrangements as approved by the party.
According to him, party leaders were already engaging aspirants to encourage consensus building, stressing that only one candidate would emerge for each position.
"It is not a do-or-die affair. If you are not chosen, do not rock the boat. Remain in the party. One day, opportunity will come," he said, recalling his own experience of losing a Senate bid in 2018 but remaining loyal to the party.
He also warned against defection, insisting that loyalty to the APC must be sustained even after internal contests.
The governor disclosed that the party’s stakeholder structure had been expanded from 10 to 60 leaders per local government to deepen inclusion and broaden consultations.

Reaffirming the party’s electoral goal, Aiyedatiwa said the APC remained committed to retaining power in 2027, adding that ongoing federal projects in the state including the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and major road dualisation projects demonstrated the performance of the Tinubu administration.
He maintained that the 2027 elections remained a "task that must be achieved" for the APC.
Remarking, the APC State Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, reaffirmed party supremacy, declaring that Aiyedatiwa remains the leader of the party in Ondo State and assuring the governor of the loyalty of the State Working Committee.
Kolawole urged aspirants to respect party decisions, stressing that political maturity and patience remain essential to long-term success.
The Central Senatorial Leader of the APC, Mr Kayode Famuyiwa, lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, infrastructural development and economic management, noting that Akure had attained a befitting capital status.
He called for the establishment of a College of Agriculture and Food Technology in Idanre, citing the area’s agricultural endowments in cocoa, timber and plantain, and said the absence of a tertiary institution was hindering youth development.
The Executive Director of Corporate Services, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon Ifedayo Abegunde, expressed satisfaction with the level of participation at the meeting.
