The 2027 re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu has received a major grassroots endorsement following a new political alliance between the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria and the City Boys Movement.

The partnership was announced at the weekend during an event in the South-East, where the President of the Forum, Rt. Hon. Evoh Okechukwu Nwikegwu, said thousands of councillors across the country are prepared to mobilise voters in support of the President.

According to him, Nigeria’s 8,809 councillors will deploy their grassroots structures across the country’s 176,836 polling units to help deliver what he described as a decisive electoral victory for Tinubu in 2027.

Nwikegwu described the collaboration with the City Boys Movement—led by Seyi Tinubu—as a formidable political force capable of influencing voter mobilisation nationwide.

“As the closest representatives to the people at the grassroots, councillors remain the vanguards of development and democratic participation,” he said.

He added that the combined reach of councillors and youth mobilisation groups would create a nationwide movement that could not be easily undermined.

“The figures are staggering. This is a movement poised to sweep across the nation. Any agenda aimed at undermining it will only amount to a futile attempt to obstruct progress,” he said.

The Forum President also commended the administration of President Tinubu, describing it as transformative and impactful.

He cited recent reforms, particularly the restoration of autonomy for local governments, as a major milestone for governance at the grassroots.

Nwikegwu noted that the policy had strengthened the third tier of government by restoring financial and administrative powers, while also enabling more development-focused initiatives at the local level.

He further highlighted government efforts in stabilising the economy, expanding social intervention programmes for vulnerable citizens, and revitalising agriculture and the rural economy.

The councillors’ leader also praised Seyi Tinubu’s leadership of the City Boys Movement, describing it as visionary and inspiring for young Nigerians seeking greater participation in national development.

According to him, the South-East region is increasingly receptive to the movement, a development he said could reshape political alignments ahead of the next general election.

“The South-East is abuzz with excitement to welcome the movement. We are ready to ride the tide of progress,” Nwikegwu said.

He called for unity among Nigerians, urging citizens to rise above political differences and support ongoing reforms aimed at building a prosperous, peaceful and progressive nation.
