The immediate past State Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi (retd), has declared his intention to contest the Osun West Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Adewinbi, a native of Ede, the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was appointed as Corps Commander of Amotekun in July 2020 by former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
He exited office in July 2024 following the expiration of his tenure under the administration of Adeleke, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and later moved to the Accord Party.

The retired Brigadier General announced his ambition on Friday while addressing journalists, stating that he would deploy his security and administrative experience to provide effective representation at the National Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

He said, “As APC member, I have been mobilising electorate for the Permanent Voters Card(PVC) and ensure they do it in the district I intend to represent. I can tell you boldly that with the available data that Ede North is one of the areas with large numbers of registration.
“If I am given the ticket of the party, I will deliver victory for the party in Ede town both for our 2026 Osun governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji(AMBO) and President Bola Tinubu in 2027. With my candidature, victory is sure for us in any poll.”
Earlier, Chairman of APC, Ede Federal Constituency, Alhaji Gbadebo Ajao, declared that the party is ready to present a viable candidates for 2027 general election, adding that “we are working assiduously to ensure that new voters get PVC ahead 2026 and 2027 polls.”
