Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Taraba State, Saleh Mamman, said he is confident of clinching the party’s ticket if credible primary elections are conducted.

Speaking with journalists on Monday at his residence in Jalingo, Mamman described direct primaries as the best option for aspirants ahead of the APC’s primaries.

With this declaration, Mamman would be locking horns with the incumbent Governor, Agbu Kefas, for the APC governorship ticket ahead of next year's gubernatorial poll.

“As one of the founding fathers of APC in Taraba, I have structures across all levels. With credible primaries, I don’t see any aspirant defeating me,” he said.

Mamman argued that direct primaries remain the preferred choice for grassroots members to pick leaders. He added that the mode favours popular aspirants who can carry the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.

“What we believe in is direct primaries. The people at the grassroots should choose their leaders. New members who joined APC recently may not know what we built at the ward level before they came on board,” Mamman said.

He noted that his recent engagements in Jalingo reinforced his confidence. “From the level of engagement I have had since arriving, I am sure of success if credible primaries are held.”

Mamman, who was received by a large crowd at the Jalingo airport on Saturday, said the turnout signaled a desire for new leadership in Taraba.

“The number of people that came out to welcome me was a clear sign that the people want change in Government House. And I am ready and capable to provide that if given the chance,” he said.
