Although the Independent National Electoral Commission is yet to announce the date for the commencement of campaigns by political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, the political atmosphere all over the country is on charge. Already, preparations have commenced, with stakeholders’ engagements  stretching deep into the night, strategies being oiled, and a harbour of support groups emerging to drive the campaigns to full throttle.

In Benue State, where the state governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Iormem Alia held sway, the political atmosphere is the same. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is fully engaged in grassroots mobilisation. It has deployed an army of youths, women, elders, and other key mobilisers to canvas support for the party ahead of the general elections.

It is in line with this objective that Governor Alia, on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, inaugurated 23 Local Government Coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, an APC support group charged with the responsibility of taking the message of the party to the grassroots to prepare the ground for full scale campaigns when the time comes.

The inauguration, which took place at IBB Square in Makurdi, during a Strategic Enlightenment Engagement, had party stakeholders, support groups, women and youth leaders, as well as loyalists from across the state in attendance.

“You have been chosen by your people to serve. This is an honour to you, your families, and the APC across the state. Your duty is to enlighten the grassroots, promote the values of the party, and ensure that our achievements are well communicated,” the governor told the ambassadors.

For those familiar with politics, this is a grand strategy because politics is local. That is where the votes are. That is where loyal party members never waiver. It is therefore necessary to engage directly with communities through door-to-door sensitization and party registration to strengthen the APC’s support base.

The selling point will always be the ongoing development strides of the state government and what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been able to do for the nation.

With the support of the federal government, the administration of Governor Alia has left indelible marks on Benue soil. Marks that have entered the history books of the state. Huge marks that have touched lives, transformed communities, unlock potentials, and offer hopes for a future that is bright and clear.

From roads to water supply, health and education, social services and empowerment, prompt salary and pension payments, the recruitment of new workers, agricultural development, rehabilitation of industries, and renewed focus on the plight of displaced persons, the Alia administration has delivered hugely. These are potent campaign points, attractive and sellable when the time comes.

The APC in Benue is absolutely strong, but it must unite and approach the forthcoming election collectively. Unity among party members, reconciliation across divides, and sustained grassroots engagement are key to success.

In the words of Governor Alia, “the task ahead is a collective one. Work has started. We must move from door to door. APC must remain strong in Benue from A to Z.”

For the State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Hon. Prince Terhemen Tarzoor, they will be driven by the confidence in the leadership of both President Tinubu and Governor Alia. It is a campaign for continuity. Continuity in governance to sustain development, peace, and economic reforms, as well as the sustain the impactful and youth-friendly government in Benue State.

Ready to deliver electoral victories is an assembly of political heavy weights, including the Benue State APC Chairman, Chief Benjamin Omale.

Their task will be appealing to the people of Benue State to give their total support for the reelection of President Tinubu and Governor Alia come 2027.

They also have the onerous task of securing 100% support of the people to consolidate on the laudable development across Benue and the country.

In essence, apart from publicising the unprecedented attention given by the administration of Governor Alia in revamping infrastructure in schools, hospitals, transportation, among others, they also have the pedigree of a President who cares about Benue and its people, who knows every Local Government Area in the state, who is concerned about the insecurity affecting the people and who is determined to end it.

In a clear message to the people, Governor Alia said, “With the efforts we are making and with the tireless support from Mr. President, the IDPs are gradually returning to their homes. We are determined and must do everything possible to ensure the camps are empty and the people are back to their ancestral homes.

“So, you need to re-elect us to consolidate the work we have started for the benefit of you all.”
