The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has said key leaders of the party, including Alex Otti, have agreed in principle to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.

Arabambi disclosed during an interview on News Central on Thursday, stating that the decision aligns with a political understanding that the presidency should remain in the South-West for a full eight-year cycle.

“Abure and Governor Alex Otti have all agreed in principle that we will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because this presidency belongs to the South-West, not to the South,” he said.

He added that the arrangement was aimed at allowing the South-West to complete its turn in the presidency.

Speaking on the possible return of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Arabambi ruled out the move, insisting that the former Anambra State governor would not be readmitted into the party.

“Obi can never come back to the Labour Party, because we have an agreement, even with Governor Alex Otti… we have all settled that we will support the second term ambition of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu only,” he said.

Arabambi also criticised former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, accusing her of pushing for Obi’s return to the Labour Party.

He alleged that her efforts were driven by the belief that Obi may not secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress.

“Nenadi is just an appendage of Peter Obi. She’s only deceiving herself. She wants Obi as our Labour Party presidential candidate, and that is not going to work,” he said.

He further urged her to abandon the idea, regardless of any backing she may have.

“She should perish that thought, no matter whosoever that is sponsoring her,” Arabambi added.
