2027: Mkpat Enin group rejects second term, demands equity in zoning for Ikpa Ibom
A socio-political group in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, Ikpa Ibom Patriots, has insisted that there is no provision for a second term in the Mkpat Enin

A socio-political group in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, Ikpa Ibom Patriots, has insisted that there is no provision for a second term in the Mkpat Enin State Constituency, urging stakeholders not to undermine the zoning arrangement credited with sustaining peace and unity in the area.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Hon. Christopher Inyang, the group expressed concern over what it described as the marginalisation of Ikpa Ibom Clan in the allocation of the State House of Assembly seat.
The group noted that despite being the largest clan in Mkpat Enin, with 31 out of 87 villages, Ikpa Ibom has yet to enjoy equitable representation in the constituency.

“Since the advent of the Fourth Republic, three out of the four clans in Mkpat Enin have produced members of the State House of Assembly for eight years each. Ikpa Ibom, however, only had a single term from 2015 to 2019 and is yet to complete a second term to balance the eight-year tenure enjoyed by others,” the statement read.

It described the situation as unjust and warned that continued imbalance could trigger disunity and erode trust among the constituent clans.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, towards the development of Akwa Ibom State and the commitment to fairness and equity. It is in this spirit that we appeal to your good office, Your Excellency, to intervene in this matter and ensure that Ikpa Ibom is given its rightful turn to produce the next House of Assembly member representing Mkpat Enin. We believe that fairness and equity are the pillars of democracy, and we trust your leadership to uphold these values.
“We are not asking for sympathy, but for justice. We are not seeking to undermine the efforts of other clans, but to ensure that our voices are heard and our people are represented. The denial of our rightful turn will amount to a historic injustice and a betrayal of the trust reposed in your government.
“We, therefore, humbly appeal to Your Excellency to consult widely with critical stakeholders and verify our demands and claims with a view to rightfully giving Ikpa Ibom Clan her turn to produce the next House of Assembly member representing Mkpat Enin. We are confident that with your sense of justice and fairness, our plea will be granted", the group appealed.
