As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen opposition alignment ahead of the 2027 elections, Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, held a closed-door meeting on Tuesday with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The meeting took place at the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, where Obi arrived around 3 p.m. and was received by the governor.
Members of Obi’s delegation included Ben Obi, former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu, former Enugu State Governor Okwesilieze Nwodo, former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, as well as Oseloka Obaze, Chief Onyema Ogechukwu and Chief Ali Odefa.
The visitors were initially received in the governor’s coffee room before proceeding to a private session, which commenced about 10 minutes after Obi’s arrival and lasted less than an hour. Present at the meeting on the governor’s side were Monsurat Sunmonu and Bayo Lawal.
The meeting comes days after Obi and his associates attended a national summit of opposition parties hosted by Makinde in Ibadan.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Obi said the visit was part of ongoing consultations on the presidential election, emphasising that discussions centred on national development and citizens’ welfare.
He said the engagement focused on building a more secure and inclusive Nigeria, adding that the emerging coalition is committed to delivering improved governance.
According to him, the initiative is driven by national interest rather than individual ambition, with a focus on advancing the well-being of Nigerians.

Obi said, "We have come to respectfully consult with my dear brother, His Excellency, the governor of Oyo State, on the coalition for the 2027 presidential election and the overall well-being of Nigerians, because it is about Nigeria and we are about the well-being of Nigerians.
"I have just given you the peak on how we can build a better Nigeria. A Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody. A Nigeria where we can be proud, and a Nigeria that moves from consumption to production.
"With this coalition, Nigerians should expect a better Nigeria, a more united, secured, progressive Nigeria where we are going to move the country from consumption to production and get our people secured."
