In continuation of his consultations ahead of next year’s general election, former Anambra State governor and a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, yesterday met with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

The private meeting was held at the Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Obi, who arrived at the Governor’s office around 3 p.m. was received by Governor Makinde.

On the entourage of the former Anambra governor were: Senator Ben Obi, former Ebonyi  State governor, Dr. Sam Egwu, a former Enugu governor, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, Dr. Oseloka Obazie, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, and Chief Ali Odefa.

On Monday, Obi led the same delegation of Southeast leaders to the Abuja home of former President Goodluck Jonathan for consultation.

The visitors were initially led to the coffee room of the Oyo governor’s office for a brief reception before they were ushered into the private office of the governor for the meeting.

The meeting, which started about 10 minutes after their arrival, lasted for less than an hour.

In the governor’s team were Senator Monsurat Sunmonu and Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal.

The visit comes barely three days after Obi and other members of the team attended a national summit of the opposition parties, which was hosted by Governor Makinde last Saturday.

Fielding reporters’ questions shortly after the meeting, Obi said he was in the state to consult the Oyo State Governor on the presidential election, which, according to him, was about the well-being of Nigerians.

He said the meeting focused on the way to build a better Nigeria, adding that the people should expect from the coalition a better and more secure Nigeria where everyone matters.

He stressed that the meeting was about the well-being of Nigerians and not any particular individual.

Obi said: “We have come to respectfully consult with my dear brother, His Excellency, the governor of Oyo State, on the coalition of the 2027 presidential election and the overall well-being of Nigerians. It is about Nigeria, and we are about the well-being of Nigerians.

“I have just given you the pick on how we can build a better Nigeria. A Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody. A Nigeria where we can be proud and a Nigeria from consumption to production.

“With this coalition, Nigerians should expect a better Nigeria, a more united, secured, progressive Nigeria where we are going to move the country from consumption to production and get our people secured.”
