Mohammed said his meeting with Obi and his team focused on national unity and wider political cooperation and not on party interests.
“Neither the Poples Democratic Party (PDP) nor the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is standing alone. I am a freelance politician now, and his party is also in limbo. We are looking up to the judiciary.“Certainly, we are all in the opposition, and that is why I say this is a political discussion. We will not disclose everything we have discussed in terms of the ‘I’s and ‘t’s we have crossed,” he said.
The governor explained that ongoing talks among political leaders were aimed at possible alliances and cooperation ahead of future elections.
“We cannot operate without a platform. At the end of the day, the current political situation may even help bring us together and improve our chances of winning elections,” Mohammed added.
The governor described Obi’s visit as symbolic, saying it showed efforts to build links across regions.

“He is talking about uniting the country, building bridges, and creating a new future for Nigeria. This is what we stand for as a state and as a people. We feel highly honoured by this visit,” he said.
But the governor did not answer questions on possible defection or party change, amid rising talk of political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Nation reports that earlier moves to bring Governor Mohammed and his supporters from the PDP into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) failed after a disagreement over sharing formula.
This led to fresh talks among political actors about other options ahead of the 2027 general election.
The PDP had said the plan collapsed after the APC refused a 60 per cent structure-sharing deal that would have followed the proposed realignment in the state.
