Governor of Abia State and National Leader of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that the party has overcome its most turbulent period, insisting that there was “no victor and no vanquished” following the just-concluded Elective National Convention.
Otti made the declaration in Abuja while observing the inaugural meeting of the newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s national headquarters.
Speaking after the session, he said the party had weathered its internal crisis and was now positioned for stability and growth.
“The worst is over. We can’t see anything worse than what we have seen in the past,” he stated, expressing confidence in the party’s renewed direction.
The governor congratulated members of the newly elected NWC, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, the National Chairman, and commended their resilience and commitment to service. He urged them to operate with unity and discipline, warning against careless handling of sensitive issues.
He emphasised that leadership must be anchored on service and accountability rather than personal ambition, noting that the system ultimately rewards diligence and integrity.
Otti also commended the National Convention Planning Committee for organising what he described as a peaceful and rancour-free exercise that produced the party’s new leadership.
Reaffirming his support, he assured the NWC of party members' nationwide backing as the LP works to rebuild and strengthen its structure ahead of future elections.
Addressing journalists, Otti disclosed that reconciliation efforts within the party were already yielding results. According to him, more than 25 state chairmen from opposing factions attended the convention, with some emerging as members of the new NWC.
“In these disagreements, there were no winners and no losers. Everybody is a winner. Our doors remain open for more members to return,” he said, adding that efforts were ongoing to reintegrate aggrieved members, including former National Chairman Julius Abure.
The governor maintained that the party is now focused on consolidation and is fully prepared to participate in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, members of the NWC expressed appreciation to Otti for his role in stabilising the party during its crisis, describing his leadership as instrumental in preserving the LP as a viable political platform.
They pledged loyalty to the party’s leadership and assured members of their commitment to repositioning the party for national relevance.
