The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of abandoning governance in favour of political pursuits.

The party alleged that the governor is preoccupied with post-office political ambitions, alongside associates it claimed are exploiting state resources at the expense of residents.

The APC said its concerns stem from recent developments in the state, including rising insecurity, poor waste management, and loss of lives from road accidents—issues it argued require urgent government attention.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party questioned what it described as the governor’s alleged diversion of time and resources toward internal struggles within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sadare claimed that after securing a second term, expectations were high that Makinde would focus on governance but instead became engrossed in efforts to assert control within the PDP, which he described as crisis-ridden.

The APC further criticised the governor’s political ambitions beyond his tenure, warning of potential consequences while blaming key figures within the PDP for the party’s current challenges.

The statement also referenced a recent road accident in Ibadan, alleging that while residents were grieving, the governor was engaged in political meetings and activities.

It faulted what it described as government spending priorities, including the procurement of vehicles for local officials, at a time when critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and security require attention.

According to the opposition party, public institutions across the state are deteriorating, while security challenges persist without adequate response, accusing the administration of failing to take proactive measures to safeguard the welfare of residents.
