The Chairman of the Idris HK Foundation, Idris Husseini Kashim, has declared his intention to contest the Kogi East senatorial seat in next year’s general election.

He said his decision was driven by a commitment to service rather than personal comfort.

Idris declared his intention to run at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Sabongari, Idah, before party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the district.

He said years of direct engagement with communities informed his resolve to seek elective office.

“I chose humanity over luxury,” Idris said, adding that he had prioritised community interventions over an extravagant lifestyle.

The PDP chieftain listed projects his foundation had executed across the district to include provision of transformers, solar street lights, boreholes, road rehabilitation, scholarships and medical support for vulnerable residents.

Idris said his aspiration followed wide consultations across the nine local government areas of Kogi East.

“Driven by patriotic duty, resourceful service and a hopeful vision for our future, I hereby declare my intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial District seat in 2027,” he said.

Idris described the declaration as a response to calls from constituents, including youths and professionals.

He stressed that his ambition was beyond personal interest, adding that the district required vibrant and effective representation. According to him, Kogi East deserves “an energetic, smart, modern and compassionate voice” capable of delivering measurable results at the National Assembly.

The aspirant also outlined his legislative priorities, promising to sponsor and ensure the passage of laws that would impact education, infrastructure, job creation and security.

Idris said his representation would focus on translating policies into tangible outcomes, including employment opportunities and economic growth.

Also at the event, the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, endorsed Idris, describing him as “energetic and reliable”.

She hailed the PDP leadership for sustaining party structures and urged Kogi East residents to support the party in a bid to reclaim political power in the state.

Party officials present included PDP Zonal Chairman, Igagwu Idris; Ibaji Local Government Chairman, Ajodo Egbunu David; PDP State Financial Secretary,  Idakwo Idris; Zonal Chairman, Attai Achakuma; State Publicity Secretary, Paul Okwenya; and Umoru Tijani Aruwa, among others.

The declaration attracted a large turnout of supporters, signalling rising political activity within the PDP in Kogi East ahead of the 2027 polls. Idris called for unity across political divides, urging residents to work together for the development of the district.
