• ‘No endorsement for any aspirant for Rivers poll’
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has restated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
He denied endorsing any aspirant for next year’s Rivers State governorship election.
The FCT minister maintained that the only endorsement he currently recognises is for the President.
Wike stated that the decision to endorse any candidate remained within the purview of party elders.
The minister said this while addressing a joint gathering of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders from Rivers State at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja.
He cautioned against what he called the “rush” for endorsements and the internal divisions caused by personal ambitions.
Wike stressed that the current political standing of the group was built on unity and commitment rather than financial influence.

The minister also warned that external forces were actively seeking to divide the ranks of the stakeholders because of their successful collaboration.
Wike said people should be planning on how to positively move the state forward instead of seeking to cause divisions.
“If we do not work together, if we are not united, it would be difficult.
“People are not happy that we are working together. So, they must find anything to make sure we are divided,” he said.
Wike expressed disappointment that some people, after getting appointments through the group’s influence, turned around to castigate the leadership.
He described such behaviour as a failure of character and warned that those seeking to “upstage” others through deceit would not succeed.
“Woe be unto the person who we have given an appointment but goes back to castigate us,” he said.
According to him, many people who once sought his mentorship can no longer look him in the eye.
Clarifying his stance on upcoming political cycles, Wike dismissed rumours of private endorsements for local offices, insisting that his public and private positions remained the same.
Wike said he has not endorsed anyone for the PDP or APC at the state level and would not do so until the parties’ elders meet.
The minister restated his transparency in all matters, saying: “Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime.”
He hailed the council chairmen, Rivers State’s elders, and the leadership of both parties for their coordination in bringing the delegates together.
Wike added that the absence of complaints regarding the “carrying along” of members was a testament to the success of the gathering.
