...sets to announce nomination of interest

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has distanced itself from a purported list of consensus candidates for the 2027 general elections linked to Governor Seyi Makinde.

The group described the list as misleading, unauthorised and inconsistent with the party’s established processes.

In a statement jointly signed by the factional state chairman, Prof. Abdulrahman Akinoso, and the state secretary, Dr. Abiola Olaonipekun, the faction said it remains committed to transparency, due process and internal democracy in the selection of candidates for the 2027 elections.

According to the statement, the party said it had no knowledge of any consensus arrangement leading to the endorsement of candidates, stressing that any such list did not originate from its structure and should be disregarded by members, stakeholders and the public.

“The attention of the party has been drawn to reports suggesting that certain individuals have been endorsed through a consensus arrangement for the 2027 general elections.

“We wish to state clearly that the party is neither aware of nor involved in any such process,” the statement read.

The faction also announced that the sale of nomination forms for aspirants seeking to contest under the party’s platform will commence on Monday, April 20, 2026, noting that the move reflects its adherence to laid-down guidelines and commitment to a level playing field.

Reaffirming its loyalty to former Deputy Governor, Hazeem Gbolarumi, the faction maintained that no individual or group has the authority to impose candidates outside the recognised structures of the party.

It warned against attempts to mislead the public or create confusion within the party, adding that disciplinary measures may be taken against those found to be spreading false information.

The party urged its members to remained calm, focused, and committed to the ideals of unity and fairness as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

With the commencement of nomination form sales, the PDP signaled the beginning of what it described as a transparent and inclusive process aimed at producing credible candidates capable of representing the party effectively in the next general elections.
