• Police rescue seven

Community leaders in Kaduna State have debunked reports claiming that 31 persons abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko, Kachia Local Government Area, have been rescued by security operatives, insisting that the victims remain in the custody of their abductors.

But, in a statement yesterday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Okon Placid, said following the order of the Inspector-General of Police(IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, moved to Kaduna State to restore order and secure the release of seven abducted victims.

He added that DIG Nadada’s team, worked with the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services (DSS).

They were taken to Katari Hospital for medical care and are in stable condition, awaiting reunion with their families.

However, the Kuturmi Development Association (KUDA) in a statement signed by KUDA President, Dr. Joseph David Ariko, and its Publicity Secretary, Manasseh Samuel, stressed that none of the abducted persons had regained freedom.

According to the association, families of the victims are still in contact with the kidnappers, who reportedly confirmed that those abducted have safely arrived at their camp.

“This clearly invalidates any claim of a successful rescue operation,” the statement said.

KUDA expressed concern over the circulation of unverified information, warning that such reports could heighten anxiety, create false hope among families, and ultimately erode public confidence in official communication.

While acknowledging ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle insecurity in the area, the group urged authorities, including the Nigerian Army, to ensure that only accurate and verified information is released, particularly on matters involving lives.

“The safe return of the abducted persons remains our utmost priority,” the association added, calling for intensified and coordinated action to secure their unconditional release.

The group also conveyed its solidarity with the families of the victims, assuring that updates would be provided as credible information emerges.

The development underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Kaduna State, where abductions by armed groups continue despite sustained military operations.
