A terrorist group, Lakurawa, on Wednesday attacked nine communities in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing no fewer than 34 people during the morning attack.

An indigene, Umar Mai Gishiri, said they attacked Masama, Mamunu, Kamzo, Awashaka, Tungar Bature, Dan Mai Rago, Tungar Tsoho and Gorin Dena in the local government.

He added that many of the residents and families of those killed during the attack had fled over the fear of further attack.

He said when the attackers invaded his community, they went from house to house killing people.

“It was terrifying, I was lucky to escape into a nearby bush.

“We never expected this terrible attack.

‘‘No one expected that they would come to attack the village by that hour of the day,’’ he said.

A source said the state government has deployed security personnel to the affected communities but many of the residents had fled.

It would be recalled that the local government had come under attacks since last year, when the Lakurawa set 15 communities on fire, killed over 30 people and rustled about 300 cows.

Following the attacks, the Army on the request of the state government established a military base in Augie to checkmate the invasion from the Sokoto axis.

Governor Nasir Idris yesterday held a security meeting with heads of security agencies in the state at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. Though the state government did not brief reporters on its outcome, a top government official said it was about the attacks on the communities in Arewa council.
