The Federal Government has launched the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Partner Network, with the European Union committing €5 million to support Nigeria’s digital skills development programme.

The launch, held in Lagos, drew senior government officials, a European Union delegation, and key players from the private sector and development community.

The initiative signals a new phase for the 3MTT programme, shifting from a national intervention to a more structured and scalable talent development framework.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the partner network would formalise collaborations that have driven the programme so far and open opportunities for broader participation.

“Today is not the end of a chapter; it is the opening of a new one. The 3MTT Partner Network gives structure to the relationships that have powered this programme and creates a front door for every organisation that wants to be part of what comes next,” he said.

Tijani added that Nigeria is building a talent infrastructure capable of supporting Africa’s growing digital economy.

A senior representative of the European Union said the funding forms part of its broader digital support package for Nigeria, describing the country as a model for large-scale digital talent development on the continent.

Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Massimo De Luca, noted that Nigerian talent remains competitive globally.

“The EU has committed to 3MTT together with Member States and EU companies as a key part of its Digital Package in Nigeria. Nigerian talent matters globally,” he said.

The event featured participation from existing and prospective partners, including major technology firms and telecommunications companies such as MTN, Microsoft, Google, Airtel, and Moniepoint.

Selected fellows of the programme also shared their experiences, highlighting the impact of the initiative on their technical skills and career growth.

The Partner Network is expected to move 3MTT’s collaborations from ad hoc engagements to a more coordinated and accountable structure, aimed at scaling up Nigeria’s digital talent pool.

The 3MTT programme is a flagship initiative of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, designed to position Nigeria as a leading digital economy in Africa.
