Prof. Nnamdi Chinwendu Nwaeze has stepped down as Director of Information and Communication Services (ICS), Abia State University (ABSU), marking the end of a five-year tenure defined by digital reforms and institutional strengthening.
Nwaeze, who assumed office in August 2021, oversaw major improvements in the university’s digital infrastructure at a time when higher institutions faced growing challenges around system inefficiencies and sharp practices. The ICS unit is responsible for managing the university’s portals, student verification platforms, data security, and internal digital workflows.

One of the key innovations under his leadership was the introduction of the ABSU QUICK Check App, designed to simplify student verification processes, reduce delays, and improve service delivery. His administration also strengthened the university portal, closed digital loopholes, and enforced quality control across admissions, records, and communication systems.
Reflecting on his tenure, Nwaeze said his leadership philosophy was rooted in service and integrity.
“Technology must serve people, not frustrate them, and systems must protect the institution, not enable sharp practices,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to the late Prof. Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, under whose administration he was employed, as well as Prof. Onyemachi Maxwell Ogbulu and Prof. Ndukwe James Okeudo for their trust and support during his years in office. He also praised members of the ICS team for their professionalism and dedication.

Nwaeze acknowledged that the journey was not without challenges, including surviving a gun attack along the Uturu–Okigwe Road in July 2023, which he described as one of the most difficult moments of his service.
As he handed over, the outgoing director expressed confidence in the future of ICS, noting that the unit is now stronger and better positioned to support the university’s academic and administrative goals.
Nwaeze, a Professor of Development Economics, thanked the university community for the opportunity to serve, describing his exit as the close of a productive season and the beginning of new possibilities.
