Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has  launched its  EcoScriber Project, a path-breaking sustainability and artificial intelligence-driven digital tool designed to accelerate the transition from paper-based administrative processes to smarter, more efficient, and environmentally sustainable digital systems.

Funded by the British Council under the Innovation for African Universities (IAU) Enterprise and Innovation Challenge, the project is coordinated by the Institute for Oil, Gas, Environment, Energy and Sustainable Development (OGEES) at ABUAD through its Sustainability Innovation Hub (SIHUB).

“This is a novel innovation, and I must commend the OGEES Institute under the leadership of our dynamic Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership (DVC-RISP), Prof. Damilola Olawuyi, (SAN).

“With EcoScriber, our administrative processes are greatly simplified, enabling seamless sending and receiving of memos,” she stated.

The Vice Chancellor also expressed deep appreciation to the British Council for supporting the university-led innovative solution that addresses practical institutional and societal needs.

She further acknowledged the Registrar, and the Project Lead,  for their visionary leadership and commitment to driving the initiative.

The launch marks the commencement of a one-year implementation phase, during which the EcoScriber project will integrate product deployment, staff training, institutional testing, and innovation mentoring.

At the conclusion of the project cycle, the initiative is expected to foster a robust culture of paperless administration, digital efficiency, and sustainability-driven governance within ABUAD and potentially across other universities.

EcoScriber further reinforces ABUAD’s position as a leading centre for research-driven innovation and practical solutions, demonstrating how universities can leverage technology to address administrative inefficiencies and environmental challenges, while accelerating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Established in 2012, the OGEES Institute is a sustainability research and training institute at ABUAD.

It focuses on capacity building, research, and policy advocacy in the areas of oil, gas, energy, environment, and sustainable development.

The institute aims to contribute to the sustainable management of natural resources and the protection of the environment in Nigeria and beyond, through training programs, research projects, and engagement with stakeholders.
