The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has resolved to operationalise its endowment fund and review its constitution as part of efforts to strengthen its capacity to address northern Nigeria’s development challenges.

A statement issued to journalists in Kaduna on Sunday by the Forum’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Alhaji Bashir M. Dalhatu said the decisions were taken in Abuja last week at the 38th meeting of the BoT.

The statement noted that, the meeting which was presided over by the BOT Chairman, had prominent Northern leaders and elders, including Senator Fred Orti, Deputy Chairman Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, former Inspector General of Police MD Abubakar, and former UN General Assembly President, Prof. Tijjani Bande, among others in attendance.

According to the statement, the Forum said it resolved to establish two committees, Advisory and Management, to implement the ACF Endowment Fund.

The BOT noted that the fund, launched during the Forum’s 25th anniversary, has continued to receive donations from eminent Northerners and is expected to serve as a major intervention platform for regional development.

It said the Advisory Committee will be chaired by Ambassador Hassan Adamu, with members drawn from respected leaders across the region.

The Management Committee, according to the statement, will be chaired by former IGP MD Abubakar, with Senator Simon Lalong as Vice Chairman. While other members of the Management Committee include Ambassador Ibrahim Mai Sule, Prof. Tijjani Bande, Nasiru Danu, Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN) and Salamatu Suleiman, among others.

“The Forum also resolved to commence an immediate review of its constitution to enhance efficiency and reposition the organisation. To this end, a Constitution Review Committee was set up with Prof. Awwalu Yadudu as Chairman.

“Other members of the committee; Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN), Ambassador Ibrahim Mai Sule, Yakubu Ruba (SAN), Hon. Beni Lar and Hajia Aisha Isma’il.

“The committee is expected to revisit the aims, goals and objectives of the ACF and propose reforms to strengthen its organisational structure.

“It will also examine funding mechanisms, membership structure, leadership selection processes and relationships with key stakeholders, including Northern state governments and traditional institutions,” it read.

The BOT however directed the committee to submit its report within eight weeks, expressing confidence that the measures will reposition the Forum for greater impact in the region.
