A governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Vunobolki addressed reporters yesterday in Yola, the state capital on his departure from the APC, citing lack of transparency, fairness, and internal democracy within the party.

Vunobolki said his decision was prompted by “recent developments in the APC that contradict earlier assurances of equity and a level playing field.”

He said he had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC on February 23, this year, after assurances by the party and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who was set to join the APC then, but recent actions within the party and the state government circles have undermined those assurances.

Vunobolki asserted that the system is driven by imposition rather than democratic choice, saying: “As a long-standing participant in Nigeria’s political space, I recognise the signs of a system that is tilting towards impositions.”

He added that there is a growing likelihood that decisions will be made through manipulated consensus rather than a credible process.

He did not say which party he is joining but said he remains a governorship aspirant.

He urged his supporters across the state to also withdraw from the APC and await further directives on the next political direction.
