Abubakar Abdullahi, the representative for Girei Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley announced Abdullahi’s resignation during Monday’s session, reading a letter submitted by the lawmaker in which he cited internal issues within the PDP as his reason for leaving.

Reacting to the resignation, the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Kate Mamuno, acknowledged the concern of leaving the party that facilitated one’s election but conceded that Abdullahi’s concerns regarding the PDP’s internal crisis are valid.

Abdullahi’s departure reduces the PDP’s majority in the Assembly to 15 members against nine from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although he has not formally declared a new party affiliation, reports suggest he is expected to join the APC, which would raise the APC’s numbers to 10 in the 25-member Assembly.

The political composition of the House is anticipated to shift further in the near future, especially if Governor Ahmadu Fintiri joins the APC along with several Assembly members, as widely expected.
