Former Inspector-General of Police(IGP), Mohammed Abdullahi Adamu, has raised concern over what he described as a plot by Governor Abdullahi Sule and the leadership of the party in the state to impose an unpopular choice on the people.

Sule had recently announced Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada as his preferred choice for the party’s gubernatorial ticket in next year’s general elections.

Adamu, who is contesting the governorship ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), said: “What is unfolding in Lafia is not politics, it is a calculated assault on democracy. The leadership of the APC have pressured ward executives across the 147 wards of the state into endorsing a governor-preferred aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections.’’

Addressing reporters yesterday in Lafia, the governorship hopeful, who spoke through the Chairman, Counter and Mobilisation of his campaign team, Isa Nathaniel, described the action as political manipulation in its crudest form.

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the national working committee of the party to halt the illegality and retire constitutional order.

According to him, “what makes this even more outrageous is that it is happening in direct contradiction to the widely publicised decision of Nasarawa APC stakeholders, who met in Abuja and adopted direct primaries for all elective positions.

“That resolution was meant to end exactly this kind of backdoor impositi@@@on by giving power to the people through a transparent one member, one vote system”

He explained that this reckless path leads only to crisis “a candidate produced through intimidation carries no legitimacy, no moral authority, and no genuine support base’’.

“Such a process breeds anger, deepens divisions, and sets the stage for electoral failure. You cannot build victory on injustice, you cannot demand loyalty from members whose voices you have silenced.

“You cannot demand loyalty from members whose voices you have silenced. Political strength comes from inclusion and credibility, not from fear and manipulation.

“The choice of the APC flag bearer must be determined only through a free , fair and credible primary election scheduled for May 21, 2026, through secret deals, forced endorsement, or political intimidation.

“Nasarawa State is not a conquered territory, and the APC is not a private inheritance to be handed over at will. Ward executives are not political tools to be deployed and discarded, they are the voice of the grassroots. That voice will not be silenced,’’ he added.

“In the end, power does not belong to those who manipulate, it belongs to the people, the constitution will prevail. The ballot will speak, and history will remember those who chose to defend democracy, and those who chose to betray it,” he said.
