The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State has elected a new State Executive Committee (SEC) following its congress held in Asaba, with party leaders emphasising unity and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At the congress, George Timinimi emerged as State Chairman, while Ozegbe Emeka Lawrence was elected State Secretary after a closely contested process.

Other executive members include JFK Urhukpe as State Treasurer, Fred Akpewe as State Publicity Secretary, and Prince Diji as State Financial Secretary.

The new leadership emerged after a consensus reached through consultations among party leaders and stakeholders, including members from the Labour Party Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party, and All Progressives Congress, who aligned with the ADC structure in the state.

Clever Ikisikpo, Chairman of the ADC Congress Committee, oversaw the congress, which was attended by delegates from the state's three senatorial districts. Observers described the exercise as peaceful and commended the level of cooperation among stakeholders.

In his post-election remarks, Timinimi pledged to promote unity and inclusive leadership, assuring members of transparency and fairness in managing party affairs. He also called for collective commitment toward strengthening the party’s prospects in future elections.

“We will carry everyone along and ensure that all interests are represented,” he said.

He called for the support and cooperation of party members across the state.

Earlier in the proceedings, party leaders called for unity, describing it as critical to repositioning the ADC as a formidable political force in Delta State.

They emphasised the need to harmonise previously existing divisions among members drawn from different political backgrounds.

Resolutions reached at the congress included a commitment to integrate all tendencies within the party and strengthen internal structures in preparation for upcoming electoral contests.

Leaders expressed optimism that the newly constituted executive would consolidate the congress's gains and expand the party’s grassroots appeal.

Several stakeholders, including party chieftains and delegates, commended Senator Clever Ikisikpo for facilitating dialogue among the various groups. They noted that the consensus achieved reflected a shared commitment to the growth of the ADC in Delta.

They noted that the congress marked a significant step in the party’s ongoing efforts to build cohesion and position itself as a viable alternative in the state’s political landscape.
