A fresh rift has emerged in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the Nafi’u Bala Gombe-led Board of Trustees (BoT) and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Sunday cautioned Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the David Mark-led faction, against issuing statements in the party’s name. They warned that any unauthorised use of its name or logo could attract legal action.

The party is currently embroiled in a leadership dispute that is before the court.

The party leadership said Abdullahi is not authorised to speak for the ADC. They advised that if he wishes to join the party, he should do so through the established membership process by registering at his political ward in Kwara State.

The warning was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, and the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Rufus Ikanmi.

The leadership also directed banks and other financial institutions to halt transactions related to the party’s accounts with individuals or groups claiming to act on behalf of the ADC without authorisation.

The statement read in part, “The African Democratic Congress remains a party for all Nigerians, and membership is open to everyone through the established registration process.

“The Board of Trustees (BOT) and National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have issued a formal notice to all Deposit Money Banks and other financial institutions in Nigeria.

“Instructing them to cease all transactions and activities related to the party’s accounts with members of the coalition purporting to act on behalf of the ADC.

“Any further dealings, including lending, withdrawal, or transfer of funds from the party's accounts, will be considered financial crimes and economic sabotage. Such actions will be prosecuted to the full extent of financial regulations and relevant criminal laws.”
