Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed an online statement attributed to him claiming he had “accumulated enough money to never be broke again,” describing it as false and misleading.

He also raised concerns over what he termed a sustained campaign of misinformation targeting his person.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, the minister said he never made such remarks in any public or private setting, stressing that the claim was intended to mislead the public and tarnish his reputation.

Tunji maintained that the statement did not originate from the minister and should be disregarded entirely, adding that it forms part of a growing pattern of coordinated disinformation aimed at discrediting him.

According to the statement, the claim surfaced shortly after a purported resignation letter attributed to Adelabu circulated online, which has also been exposed as fake.

The minister’s aides said both incidents point to a deliberate campaign of calumny.

“This is not an isolated attack. It is part of a sustained effort to malign the person and office of the Honourable Minister through the spread of fake news and deliberate falsehoods,” the statement said.

The minister’s aide linked the wave of disinformation to Adelabu’s rising political profile, particularly his reported interest in contesting the Oyo State governorship seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that the attacks were driven by political interests unsettled by the minister’s growing influence.

Adelabu urged the public to disregard the false reports and advised Nigerians to rely on verified and credible sources of information, warning against the dangers of spreading unverified content.
