The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Friday approved the appointment of Prince Tajudeen Olanrewaju as the new Akire of Ikire.

The Nation recalled that the Oba Olatunde Falabi, Lambeloye III joined his ancestors on 27th February, 2026 after brief illness and community concluded his rite of passage on Friday, March 27.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, disclosed that Prince Olanrewaju's appointment was affirmed at the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday which was presided over by Governor Adeleke.

He stated that after the council deliberated on the detailed memo submitted by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the recommendations was approved in line with extant laws and terms of settlement agreed to by the five Ruling Houses.

“It is pertinent to mention that the stool of Akire of Ikire generated crisis in the year 2021 over the Supreme Court Judgment of 2014, which affirmed that Lambeloye Ruling House that produced Oba Olatunde Falabi had no legal right to occupy the stool of Akire of Ikire as at the time it did when a vacancy occurred in 1987.

“The aftermath of the crisis made the Osun State Government in collaboration with all the five (5) Ruling Houses of Ikire to resolve and jointly agree on the amendment of 1958 Akire Chieftaincy Declaration which paved way for Aketula Ruling House to be the next Ruling House whenever a vacancy occurred.”

He said, the Council also approved the appointment of Prince Tijani Feyi Ademola as Aladodo of Adodo in Atakumosa East LG, Prince (Dr) Jacob Adetayo Haastrup as Olumobi of Imobi— ijesa, Atakumosa East LG.

“In addition, the also approved the elevation of new Obas from Ilefe, Osogbo and Ijesha traditional councils.”
