The African textile industry is telling its story by gradually gaining momentum with the United Kingdom and other global creative communities through reinforcement of shared values around cultural preservation, creative education, sustainability and global story telling.

The Chief Executive Officer, CN Daniels Couture, Nnamdi Daniels, stated this at a press conference on the Threads of Unity project, a cultural and creative storytelling platform dedicated to exploring the historical, social and artistic significance of fabric as a foundation of human identity in Abuja, dedicating this to exploring the deep historical, artistic significance of fabric as foundation of human identity.

He noted that textiles being rooted in African heritage and global narratives, the thread of unity elevates textiles beyond fashion thereby positioning them as living archives of culture, trade power, innovation and resistance. This is done through documentary, storytelling and research including creative collaborations.

“Thread of unity seeks to shift public perception of fashion from consumption to consciousness by exposing cultural debt and environmental consequences of textile production. It also encourages responsible consumption, supports artisanal communities and contributes to global discussions on sustainability, labour and cultural preservation”.

The Programme Manager, Arts and Culture British Council, Uju Dubasi Agbase, assures of support for the creative businesses, lamenting that the Nigerian creative is not properly structured hence the support from the council. The British council will work with them to guide and support their growth and expansion.

The creative industries in Nigeria should know that there are opportunities in the council for businesses. The British Council is happy to host the thread of unity programme, would like all to know that this creation belongs to CN Daniels Couture.
