AIG Jimoh declares war on corruption, oppression

Addressing officers, stakeholders, and journalists during his inaugural parade and decoration of six newly promoted Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), Jimoh challenged operatives of the command to uphold discipline, professionalism, and respect for citizens’ rights.

He said acts of misconduct, unlawful detention, and abuse of office would no longer be tolerated in the zone, stressing that erring officers would face decisive disciplinary measures.

“There will be zero tolerance for corruption, unlawful detention, and human rights violations. Any officer found wanting will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.

The AIG also directed that suspects must not be detained beyond constitutionally permitted periods except with proper court authorisation.

He warned officers against interfering in civil matters, particularly land disputes disguised as criminal cases, announcing plans to set up a committee to vet petitions and prevent misuse of police processes.

The AIG further ordered an end to indiscriminate transfer of cases from lower police formations to the zonal headquarters, noting that investigations should remain at appropriate command levels unless escalation was justified.

Reaffirming his commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and stronger collaboration with stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society groups, Jimoh noted the importance of Lagos and Ogun states to the country's economic and security stability.

He said sustaining safety in the zone remained a top priority.

“The task before us is enormous, but with the cooperation of officers and the public, we will further strengthen security and sustain the relatively low crime rate across the zone,” he said.

He also warned criminal elements operating in both states to relocate or face the full weight of the law, declaring that the command would intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks.

Decorating the six ACPs- Abel Ademola, Aderonke Bakare, Raji Ganiyu, Iliazu Mohammed Lawal, Samuel Ijiachi, and Olusola Knight- the AIG described their elevation as a recognition of merit, dedication, and professionalism.

He thanked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu and the Police Service Commission for approving the promotions, expressing confidence that the officers would justify the trust placed in them.

The AIG also called on residents of Lagos and Ogun states to strengthen cooperation with the police, noting that effective policing depended on mutual trust.

He assured that officers’ welfare would remain a priority under his leadership in line with directives from the police high command.
