The Yobe State Government has refuted online reports alleging that an airstrike targeted residents of Geidam Local Government Area, clarifying that the operation was deliberate and aimed at a known terrorist enclave.

In a statement issued by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, said the government's attention had been drawn to misleading reports suggesting that the people of Geidam were attacked, stressing the need to set the record straight.

According to the statement, the Air Component of the Joint Task Force (Northeast) Operation HADIN KAI conducted a precision airstrike on Saturday, April 11, 2025, targeting Jilli—a recognised Boko Haram stronghold in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

Brig Gen. Abdulsalam emphasised that "the mission was intentional, intelligence-driven, and part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist hideouts in the North-East".

It firmly stated that "the airstrike was not a mistake".

However, it noted that some traders and civilians from Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, who had travelled to the Jilli weekly market near the Borno-Yobe border, were inadvertently affected during the operation.

Those injured were promptly evacuated to the Geidam Specialist Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

The statement reassured residents of the State Government's continued collaboration with security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property, while urging the public to disregard misleading reports capable of causing panic and confusion.
