Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has constituted a five-member committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage for workers of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) in Ondo State.

The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Olaolu Akindolire, was announced in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan.

Other members include Dr. Wunmi Ilawole, Mr. Olaleye Phillips, Mr. Asonja Oluwole Festus, and Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye.

According to the statement, the committee was set up following a series of engagements with the institution’s management and labour unions over the harmonisation of salary structures.

It is expected to work with the polytechnic’s management, unions, and relevant state agencies to audit payroll data, reconcile discrepancies, and recommend a sustainable payment framework.

The development follows recent disruptions of academic and commercial activities at the institution by workers protesting wage-related issues.

The workers, under the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, had raised concerns over wage implementation.

Meanwhile, the state government has cleared three months of outstanding salary arrears owed to the workers. The Commissioner for Education, Igbekele Ajibefun, said the payment was aimed at stabilising the institution and restoring confidence among staff.

In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa has confirmed the appointment of Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as the substantive Rector of the institution. He had been serving in an acting capacity since October 2024.
