Akure Progressive Movement (APM) yesterday rejected what it called the purported endorsement of aspirants for the House of Representatives and Ondo State House of Assembly by a group claiming to be representing Akure South leaders.
A statement by APM’s leader, Afolabi Akinbowale, said the group reportedly claimed to be speaking on behalf of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.

‘’We wish to debunk and reject this claim in its entirety.’’
Akure Progressive Movement affirms that the authentic and widely recognised leadership of APC in Akure South resides with credible, longstanding and respected party stalwarts.

‘’These include Dr. Samuel Akerele, Chairman of Elders Council; Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, former Deputy Governor; Asiwaju Sunday Abegunde, Executive Director, Corporate Services, NDDC; Prof. Olu Aderounmu; Basorun Ifedayo Adedipe, SAN; Oluwamuyiwa Ogunleye, former member of House of Representatives; Afe Olowookere, former member of House of Representatives; Jide Adejuyigbe, former council Chairman; and Sir Ademola Adegoroye, former Minister of State for Transport, among other leaders.
‘’For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. S. B. Akerele remains the recognised leader of APC in Akure South. Any contrary claim is misleading and should be disregarded by party members and the public.

‘’We therefore dissociate ourselves from the actions and statements of the group.
‘’The said group lacks legitimacy, structure and the political standing required to speak for or endorse aspirants on behalf of the APC in Akure South. Its members are largely unknown within the established political framework of Akure.
‘’We strongly caution the group’s leader and his associates to desist from parading themselves as leaders or elders of Akure South. Such conduct is not only deceptive, but also capable of undermining the unity and integrity of our political community.
‘’Their persistent attempts to discredit representatives of our people in Abuja are equally condemnable and must cease forthwith.
‘’The good people of Akure are discerning and well aware of those who genuinely represent their interests. We urge the public and party faithful to remain vigilant and not be misled by self-appointed actors pursuing questionable agendas.’’
