A leading socio-political organisation, under the auspices of Akure Frontiers, has condemned what it called the recurring claim that Akure North has not produced a member of the House of Representatives for Akure North/South Federal Constituency since the return to democratic governance in 1999.

It described the claim as selective, misleading, factually inaccurate and politically mischievous.

In a statement, the Coordinator of the group, Mr Dele Ayotunde, said such assertions distorted historical records by ignoring the joint nature of the Akure North/South Federal Constituency and the documented contributions of indigenes from both local government areas over the years.

The group said peddling ‘’this narrative is not only divisive, but also a calculated attempt to create unnecessary tension and marginalisation sentiment where none exists, especially as political activities intensify ahead of future elections.’’

It called on politicians and community leaders to desist from spreading half-truths and instead engage in honest, fact-based discourse that promotes unity, equity and peaceful coexistence within Akure axis.

“Akure Frontiers will continue to resist every attempt to rewrite history or pit one part of our federal constituency against the other.

‘’We stand firmly for truth, fairness and the collective interest of all Akure people,” the statement said.

The organisation urged stakeholders to focus on issues of development and good governance, rather than engaging in cheap, divisive politics that could undermine the progress of Akure Federal Constituency.
