Akure Youth Ambassador (AYA), a foremost socio-political organisation championing the interest of Akure people, has described as false and misleading, the persistent claim that Akure North Local Government has not produced any member of the House of Representatives since the return to democratic governance in 1999.

The group insisted that such a narrative is nothing but a deliberate distortion of historical facts, peddled by desperate politicians to score cheap political points and create unnecessary division within Akure kingdom.

In a statement, the Coordinator of AYA, Mr. Ade Olatunji, said: ‘’Findings by our organisation have shown that Akinwunmi Omoseebi contested for the ticket of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1999 from Ita-Ogbolu in Akure North Local Government.

‘’He was duly elected and served as the representative of Akure North/South Federal Constituency.

‘’Omoseebi hails from Ita-Ogbolu in Akure North, and his election remains a testament that Akure North has indeed produced a federal lawmaker right from the inception of the Fourth Republic.

‘’Many of those who have represented the constituency in the past have strong roots in Akure North. Notable among them are Ifedayo Abegunde, Mayokun Lawson-Alade, and the late Adedayo Omolafe (Expensive).

“The plot to paint Akure North as completely marginalised or excluded since 1999 is therefore a blatant lie orchestrated to serve narrow political interests.

‘’Our belief is that we are one indivisible people. Akure is one. Akure kingdom is one.

We must therefore rise above petty and divisive politics, and work together in the spirit of unity, brotherhood and mutual respect for the peace, progress and development of our dear Akure kingdom.

‘’As we approach the 2027 general election, let us focus on issues that unite us, rather than those that tear us apart.

“Akure North deserves fair consideration, but above all, Akure as a whole must speak with one voice.”
