The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has congratulated the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, urging him to prioritise the protection of innocent citizens and uphold the rule of law.

In a statement by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaye, the monarch described Disu’s elevation as a testament to his professionalism and integrity, noting that his performance would directly affect Nigerians.

“As you settle down, be professional and write your name in gold by giving us the new Police Nigerians are craving for,” he said, expressing confidence that Disu would bridge the gap between the Police and the public.

The Alaafin called for functional human rights desks in police stations and commands nationwide, staffed by qualified personnel to address complaints and safeguard citizens’ rights. He also commended former IGP Kayode Egbetokun for his service.

In a statement signed by its Convener, Ambassador Mary Abayomi Fatile, the group cited Disu’s record as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, Head of the Intelligence Response Team, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, and Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the FCID Annex, Alagbon.

“Nigerians are optimistic that with him at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force, there will be a positive shift in public perception of the Police,” she said.

The group expressed confidence that his leadership would strengthen intelligence-led policing, professionalism, and public trust, and pledged its support for his tenure.
