Abia Warriors Head Coach, Imama Amapakabo, has backed striker Chukwuemeka Obioma to finish as the Nigeria Premier Football League’s top scorer.

Obioma failed to score in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Bendel Insurance in Benin City but remains on 11 goals, just one behind league leader Joseph Arumala.

Arumala netted his 12th  goal in Ikorodu City’s 3-0 win over Kano Pillars, opening the scoring in the 28th  minute.

Despite Obioma’s recent blank, Amapakabo believes the forward still has what it takes to win the Golden Boot.

“It is his responsibility to score goals and we are glad he is converting chances. I believe he could have had close to 30 goals if he was more clinical,” he said.

He added that Obioma’s goal-scoring instinct remains vital to the team’s ambitions.

The race remains tight, with Godwin Obaje (Enugu Rangers) also on 11 goals, while Victor Mbaoma (Remo Stars), Chidera Michael (Enyimba), Uche Collins (Katsina United), and Daddy Abdulrahman (El Kanemi Warriors) are all on 10 goals.

With only a few matches left, the battle for the NPFL Goal King title promises a thrilling finish.
