Former Ogun State governor and senator, Ibikunle Amosun, has dismissed media reports concerning a recent All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting in Ogun Central, describing them as misleading.
In a statement issued by his media office, Amosun clarified that the meeting, held on April 23, 2026, at the residence of elder statesman Olusegun Osoba, was convened at his instance amid speculation about his possible candidacy in the 2027 senatorial election.
He said, contrary to reports suggesting he asked other aspirants to step down, no such request was made during the meeting.
According to him, three senatorial aspirants had earlier approached him individually to seek his support and had indicated their willingness to withdraw should he decide to contest.
“Nowhere throughout the meeting did I request anyone to withdraw from the race for me because that would be undemocratic and unacceptable,” he said.
Amosun reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, citing his record as a two-term governor and senator.
He stressed that he would not participate in any primary election where the outcome is predetermined.
The former governor also urged the media to uphold professional standards by verifying information before publication and avoiding reliance on unverified partisan sources.
The clarification comes amid heightened political activities within the APC in Ogun Central as aspirants position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
