People from communities in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have benefited from a free medical outreach facilitated by the lawmaker representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Uchenna Okonkwo.

The beneficiaries with ailments, drawn from seven communities, namely Akwu-Ukwu, Alor, Awka-Etiti, Nnobi, Nnokwa, Oba and Ojoto, were attended to by a team of medical officers.

The medical outreach tagged: “Cardiovascular Screening and Community Health Outreach 2026”, took place at St. Paul’s Catholic Church premises in Ojoto community.

The organisers of the outreach said its benefits were free cardiovascular screening, cancer risk assessment, eye examination and lifestyle risk profiling.

Others were onsite medical counselling, limited medical support for known cases, free eyeglasses, free insecticides for the control of mosquitoes and others.

The benefactor, Okonkwo, said the health outreach was organised by his office in partnership with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, and Annie Okonkwo Foundation.

He revealed that a similar health outreach would also be organised for the residents of the communities that made up Idemili North Local Government the following day; and that hundreds of people with ailments would be diagnosed and treated at no cost.

“This outreach will not only form a basis for educating people on the necessary ailments they may be affected with, but will also give them necessary prescriptions; conduct eye tests, and then also make sure they are aware of issues of cancer,” he said.

Okonkwo said drugs, eyeglasses and insecticides for the control of mosquitoes worth several millions of naira were given to the beneficiaries at the event.
