The Anambra State Government has restated its readiness to collaborate with Shell Energy Nigeria to introduce gas as an energy source to guarantee a steady supply and promote industrialisation in the state.
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, stated this in Awka during an Energy Stakeholder Forum jointly presented by the Anambra government and Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) Limited, tagged "Bridging the Energy Gap for Manufacturers."
He said the state has the potential and enabling environment that would make the initiative thrive for the betterment of the citizens.
Delivering a paper titled "Industrialisation in Anambra: Realities, Challenges and Opportunities," Chukwulobelu explained that the plan for the state to embrace the innovation began two years ago.
"This is coming to a climax with the stakeholders’ forum as a significant approach by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to change Ndi Anambra from consumers to producers," he said.
Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr Julius Chukwuemeka, reassured the government's commitment to a reliable, affordable, and clean source of power to the people of the state.
He said the Forum was targeted at harnessing the abundant gas reserve the state is blessed with for the benefits the people of the state, including boosting industrialization in the state.
Managing Director, Shell Energy Nigeria, Mr. Ralph Gbobo, and Head of New Business, Shell Energy Nigeria, Mr. Brian Murivki pledged the group's commitment to make things easier for industrialists in the state.
"We have a well-thought-out strategy to shift from diesel to gas and provide the next chapter of industrialisation growth in the state to witness the transformational impact of reliable, affordable natural gas.
"This process, which has already been experimented with in some states in Nigeria, lowers operating costs, reduces volatile prices, and strengthens competition," they added.
Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), South-East Region, Lady (Dr.) Adaora Chukwudozie identified the transition from diesel dependence to gas-based energy as not just a technical shift, but a strategic pathway toward sustainable industrial growth.
She described energy as a basic foundation for industrialisation, as it remained one of the critical enablers of industrial growth.
According to her, the transition from diesel to gas energy is vital to the sustenance of industries in the region.
