A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC),  Olugbenga Omole, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in Ondo State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general election.

Omole, a former Special Adviser on Transport to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is seeking to represent Akoko South West Constituency I.

He made the declaration yesterday day during an empowerment programme at Oka-Akoko, where he also unveiled a N20 million community development support fund for youths, students, artisans, market women and women’s groups, farmers, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and religious leaders.

The aspirant said his decision to return to the assembly stemmed from what he described as a “social contract” with his constituents, having served between 2019 and 2023.

“I stand before you today heeding the call to return to the House of Assembly to continue quality representation and ensure the dividends of democracy reach our people.

“I am also going to do more, especially for youths. I will prioritise infrastructure development. This is our main challenge. We will continue to liaise with community leaders to address pressing needs,” he added.

Omole, who is said to enjoy the backing of community leaders, also presented a renovated Oka Town Hall as part of his contributions to grassroots development.

He lauded the state government led by Governor Aiyedatiwa for ensuring the release of constituency funds, noting it would enhance lawmakers’ effectiveness at the grassroots.

He listed his past achievements while in the assembly to include facilitating employment opportunities for constituents in government agencies, supporting ‘Amotekun’ Corps and providing palliatives during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Other contributions, according to him, include support for grassroots sports development, resolution of disputes affecting farmers, promotion of adult literacy and vocational education, and investments in agriculture.

As part of traditional consultations, Omole visited the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusuf Adeleye, and the Asin of Iwaro Oka, Oba Omoyejola Akande, where he received royal blessings.

The monarchs, while offering prayers, urged him to prioritise infrastructure development across Oka communities.

Earlier, Governor Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by the SUBEB Chairman, Victor Olabimtan, described Omole as a tested and trusted leader, endorsing his return to the assembly.

“Omole is the right person for the position. He stood by me during the struggle and is still standing. He has paid his dues,” he said.

The Chairman of APC in the state, Kolawole Babatunde, lauded Omole’s contributions to Oka Akoko and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to mobilising support for all the aspirants jostling for elective positions in the general election.

“From the President downward, all APC candidates will be voted for. The party will work massively for all its candidates, leaving no one behind,” he said.
