member of Media and Publicity Committee for the national convention of APC, Arabinrin Aderonke, has said her appointment is an honour and a call to responsibility, while underscoring significance of the exercise to the party’s future.
In a statement: “Unity, Structure and Strategy: Inside the Significance of APC National Convention,” Aderonke said the convention represents more than an internal gathering, noting it is a critical institutional process to shape the party’s direction.
She said the convention is the highest decision-making body, where key officers of NWC and NEC will be elected through a structured process. According to her, it also serves as a platform for defining political direction and setting frameworks that guide zoning and power distribution.

The convention holds at Eagle Square, a venue associated with major political events.
However, Aderonke noted that the convention is the culmination of a broader democratic process that began at the grassroots, with ward meetings progressing through council, state, and zonal consultations.
Reflecting on the party’s history, she said the gathering is the fourth major convention. She recalled that the 2014 inaugural convention laid the foundation, while subsequent ones in 2018 and 2022 tightened internal structures and facilitated leadership transitions, including presidential nominations.
Aderonke also highlighted the evolving leadership dynamics within the party, noting that adjustments at the national level have often been driven by the need for stability, reform, and repositioning. She added that the current leadership continues to prioritise unity, organisational discipline, and expansion as key pillars for sustaining the party’s relevance.
She described the APC as Nigeria’s largest political party, with a broad national spread and increasing influence, bolstered by the influx of political stakeholders over the years. According to her, this growth presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in maintaining cohesion within a diverse membership base.
The party has already confirmed it will retain its existing zoning arrangement for NWC positions ahead of the convention. In a statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the decision was said to be aimed at ensuring stability, equity, and balance across geopolitical zones, with aspirants directed to comply strictly with the zoning formula.
At the centre of the party’s current political direction is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who remains the party’s sole presidential candidate. Aderonke said this alignment reflects a deliberate effort to sustain unity and strategic focus within the APC.
She added that as the convention draws closer, anticipation is building across party structures, with expectations that the gathering will consolidate internal cohesion, energise members, and define the next phase of the party’s political journey.
