Ahead of its national convention next month, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a 92-member National Convention Coordinating Committee, with a directive to ensure a transparent, inclusive and credible exercise.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) also constituted 17 sub-committees to oversee critical operational, administrative, electoral, logistics, security and programme activities to guarantee a smooth convention.

Speaking at the inauguration held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, described the exercise as a significant milestone in the APC’s progressive trajectory.

The convention committee is chaired by former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari. Other members include former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who will serve as vice chairmen. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma is designated Treasurer, while former National Caretaker Committee Chairman and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, will serve as Secretary.

In his remarks, Ganduje said the convention would reaffirm the party’s democratic credentials and organisational strength.

“A convention like ours is not merely a gathering; it is an affirmation of our democratic values and a demonstration to Nigerians that the APC remains the most organised and forward-looking political party in the country,” he said.

He cited the party’s recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano and Rivers states as evidence of its expanding support base, urging members of the committee to rise above partisan considerations and deliver a convention befitting of a governing party.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Masari pledged that the 2026 National Convention would be peaceful, credible and transparent.

He expressed appreciation to the party leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the committee, stating that members accepted the assignment with a strong sense of duty and commitment to the party’s ideals.

Masari described the convention as more than a statutory obligation, characterising it as a defining moment for reflection, consolidation and renewed commitment to internal democracy and unity.

“The task before this committee is clear,” Masari said. “We are to coordinate all activities leading to a peaceful, credible, and successful 2026 National Convention. We must approach this assignment with maturity, fairness, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and guidelines.”

He then assured party members that the committee would work closely with the National Working Committee (NWC) and other organs to ensure seamless coordination.

Emphasising discipline, inclusiveness, and transparency, Masari warned that personal ambitions must not undermine party unity.

“The entire nation looks up to the leadership of our party,” he said. “We must demonstrate orderliness in our internal affairs and ensure that our processes strengthen and unify the APC.”

At the inauguration were three former National Chairmen - Chief Bisi Akande, Senator Adullahi Adamu, and the immediate past Chairman,  Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Others were Chief Olusegun Osoba

Others were Governors of Imo, Kwara, Niger, Benue, Delta, Yobe, Ogun, and Edo States

Former Deputy governor of Edo State,  Philip Shuaibu, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Hon. James Faleke, among others.
