The APC Youth Network West Africa, formerly known as APC Youth Wing West Africa, has secured formal approval for its new name after complying with constitutional directives from the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement, the group said it had officially transitioned from APC Youth Wing West Africa to APC Youth Network West Africa following clearance from the APC National Secretariat. It added that a formal letter confirming the approval had been issued to validate the change.

According to the statement, the decision followed structured engagements with the party’s National Secretariat, during which the group undertook deliberate steps to ensure full constitutional alignment as a recognised support group of the APC.

The statement read, "As part of ongoing consultations, a high-level meeting between the Director-General of the group and the National Chairman of the APC provided further strategic direction. During the engagement, the importance of strict conformity with the Party’s Constitution was emphasised, with guidance that the name “APC Youth Wing West Africa” be appropriately adjusted to reflect its status as a Support Group rather than a statutory organ of the Party.

"Hon. Gideon Olatunde Igbasan, the Director-General of APC Youth Network West Africa (formerly APC Youth Wing West Africa), reiterated in a telephone conversation with our correspondent that the repositioning strengthens structural alignment with the Party’s constitutional provisions while reinforcing its coordinated network approach to youth mobilisation and engagement across the West African sub-region.

"He expressed profound appreciation to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for his leadership and constitutional guidance throughout the repositioning process. He also extended gratitude to the APC National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru; the APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel; the Director of Administration at the APC National Secretariat, Mr. Ayoola Olajolo; and the Head of Support Group/Mobilization, Alh. Salisu Yahaya Alfa, for their institutional support, administrative coordination, and commitment to due process."

"He further reaffirmed that although the name has been updated, the group’s mission, leadership structure, and unwavering commitment to supporting the objectives of the All Progressives Congress and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda remain unchanged," it added.

The group, the statement noted, currently operates functional secretariats in Accra (Ghana), Lomé (Togo), and the Benin Republic, while its Ikeja–Lagos (Nigeria) secretariat is scheduled to open soon. Plans are also underway to establish additional secretariats in other West African countries as part of its regional expansion strategy.

The leadership emphasised that the approval marks another significant step in strengthening constitutional compliance, institutional coordination, and disciplined youth mobilisation within the Party’s approved support framework across West Africa.
